Currently in season:
- Zucchini and crockneck squash - we picked the first squash on Thursday
- Tomatoes (sort of in season, but not really) - I had 4 cherry tomatoes on the 5th of July and all the rest are still as green as grass.
- Beets - ready to eat, but I'm not feeling ready to eat them.
- Herbs - basil, parsley, chives, rosemary, thyme
- Swiss chard
- Lettuce and chicory
- Raspberries
- Shallots
- Onions - red and candy
- Zinnia and calendula (not to eat, but pretty to look at).
- Spinach
- Bok choy
- Most of the lettuce
- Peas - English and sugar snap
- Strawberries - they set fruit, but something ate most of them before they ripened
- Asparagus
- Nanking cherries - I planted them a couple of years ago. The advertisement said they would be sweet and I laughed because my Mom and Dad's were so sour. I was pleasantly surprised - they were sweet enough to eat off of the bush, though not as sweet as a Bing.
- Red currant - Too bad they ripened while I was sick and the birds ate all of them. They looked lovely on the plant though. Next year I'll cover the bush with a net while they are green.
- Serviceberry - So tasty. I had enough to eat some fresh and made a batch of Serviceberry Lime Jam. Mmmm!
- Broccoli - there are little button heads formed, but I don't know if they are going to develop or not. They've looked the same for 2 weeks. I hope it's just the type I planted.
- Artichokes - I'm thinking they are going to take 2 seasons, so I will have to overwinter them somewhere.
- Carrots - The poor carrots were trampled by some eager boys picking the peas, then the dreaded purslane weed started choking them out. I'll be happy if any survive to produce roots large enough to eat.
- Brussels Sprouts - Not doing much, but I don't know anything about Brussels sprouts.
- Tomatillo - The plant it really healthy and has been covered in flowers for 6 weeks...but I don't see any tomatillos. Maybe it needs a pollinator? Maybe I just need to be more patient. I don't know.
