- Early Snow Glories (Chionodoxa) and Squilla
- Violets
- Vinca minor
- Daffodils - My daffodils are in full bloom right now. They look so bright and cheerful. Each fall I plant a few more and some of the older clumps have up to 10 blossoms.
- Arabis - This is a white flowered cascading or spreading plant. It only gets a couple of inches tall, but the leaves are semi-evergreen and look nice even in the winter. The flowers are pretty and cover the entire plant. When the flowers are spent, just shear all of them off to keep it looking neat and tidy. This is a great perennial to plant in the fall with your bulbs; the arabis will spread into a mat and the bulbs will grow up through it. I have one patch with blue early snow glories blooming in it and I think it's lovely.
- Abrietia - If you are looking for an early blooming, short, spreading perennial with purple/red violet flowers, this is a wonderful choice. I don't think its leaves are as clean looking as the arabis - they are smaller and more spread out so you see some stem - but it's still a beautiful spring bloomer. This one also looks fantastic with bulbs growing up through it.
- Nanking Cherry
- Apricot
- Grape Hyacinth
Weeds to Watch For:
- Dandelions
- Buttercup burr
- Annual bluegrass
- Sunflowers - The sunflower seeds have germinated and are coming up all over my yard. If you have some coming up where you don't want them, now's the easiest time to chop them out.
